🎥 TikTok LIVE Studio vs OBS

I’ve been asked this many times. Should you use LIVE Studio (LS) or OBS? Let’s look at some pros and cons.

LIVE Studio

✅ Easier to set up. TikTok gives your pre-built scenes and sources.
✅ Easier to access. No jumping through hoops like joining free agencies.
✅ Contains features exclusive to LS such as compatibility mode.

❌ Very buggy. Even two years after release many people report issues.
❌ Resources intensive. Uses more of your GPU/CPU than other software.
❌ Not customisable. No ability to install third-party plugins like Aitum Vertical.

OBS

✅ More features than LS. Including better audio settings and loads of filters.
✅ Very efficient on your PC. Low GPU/CPU usage.
✅ Hundreds of plugins. These allow easy customisation.

❌ Complicated process to get a stream key involving free-to-join agencies.
❌ Steeper learning curve. OBS can feel confusing at first.
❌ Lacking TikTok-specific features. For example, compatibility mode is not possible.

My Thoughts

Content is king. You can be successful with either. Streamers often focus too much on their setup when in reality they need to focus more on creating awesome content and building a strong community.

That said, I still prefer OBS unless I feel my next livestream needs to take advantage of specific LS features like compatibility mode. Until TikTok improves the efficiency of LS then OBS is king.
