Many smaller stories in the streaming and content space have dropped this week so let’s cover them now.

1. TikTok Ends Creator Fund
   
   TikTok’s 2020 Creator Fund launch sounded promising until I and others found it was $20 per 1M views 🤣. TikTok is now ending this fund in favour of the Creativity Program. The higher requirements mean millions have been effectively demonetised.

2. Ben Toye BANNED
   
   Ben Toye, head of a top TikTok LIVE agency, has been banned. This is despite agencies having direct contact with TikTok. He's now streaming on his 1.6M follower alt account. Learn more about this intriguing TikTok LIVE figure here.

3. Thumbnail Stealing Debate
   
   This X thread contains an interesting debate. Is it ok to take somebody’s thumbnail and paint over it? The replies are massively divided. Thoughts? Hit reply!

4. Twitch Kills Hype Chat
   
   Hype Chat was a clone of YouTube Super Chat. Twitch has determined that it doesn’t quite fit the culture of the platform so has ended the experiment.

🚀 OG Fortnite Returns With A 2023 Twist

It might have been the 2018 version of Fortnite but for many livestreamers, it was the 2023 livestreaming experience.

Context

Last Friday, as this newsletter was going live, Fortnite Chapter One returned with over 5 million people playing simultaneously and 44 million in one day.

Many more were watching on Twitch, YouTube and beyond, including over 110,000 concurrent Twitch viewers for Ninja and wild success for Grefg across three platforms.

Of course, Ninja, SypherPK and many others including myself were multistreaming and platforms like TikTok LIVE and Kick also saw plenty of activity.

Rewind

Go back to 2018 and the same names like Ninja and SypherPK were streaming, just in a completely different livestreaming landscape. At this time, Twitch was still the dominant player while sites like Mixer and Facebook Live were gaining traction. TikTok LIVE and Kick didn’t even exist.

Fast Forward

Fast forward five years and the landscape has dramatically changed for streaming. YouTube is a viable streaming platform along with Kick and TikTok. There’s more choice than ever and that’s a great thing for all streamers.
