🔴 MrBeast Overtakes T-Series

What can we learn from MrBeast? Should you stream on Kick? Twitch price increases and more!

Issue #51

Hey, it’s Harry.

Welcome back to another week of the streaming and content journey.

On Saturday, MrBeast made YouTube history. He has now become the most subscribed channel in the platform's history. PewDiePie has been avenged. Let’s dive in.

💡 What Can We Learn From MrBeast?

It would be easy to think there’s nothing to learn from MrBeast. After all, most of us don’t have millions of dollars to spend per video. That couldn’t be further from the truth though, MrBeast started from zero like the rest of us!

Three Things MrBeast Teaches Us

  1. Stand out - and you don’t need millions of dollars to do this. ExtraEmily recently memorised one thousand digits of pi on stream. ShaktyG said “Kick” ONE MILLION times. You get the point. It doesn’t have to be this extreme but find a way to stand out!

  2. Gradual improvement - Slow and steady growth is often better than going “viral”. Most of us simply aren’t ready to cope when virality happens. Instead, MrBeast advocates for improving one aspect of your content every time you post. 100 streams/videos later and you’ve improved a hell of a lot!

  3. Mistakes happen - even for the biggest creators. His biggest mistake? The terrible Beast Burger deal. We are all learning as creators, even Jimmy. See the post of the week further down for more on this.

Three MrBeast Podcasts

MrBeast basically shares everything he does and I’ve watched a ton of his podcasts. Here are three of my favourites. I highly recommend them.

🟢 Is Kick Still Relevant?

Last week, BruceDropEmOff returned to Twitch, a year after he became a marquee signing for Kick. This kickstarted (no pun intended) a debate on Twitter/X including the now-deleted post below.

Let’s separate fact from fiction and discuss whether Kick is relevant in mid-2024.

So is Kick Dying? No.

One glance at the cold hard numbers from StreamsCharts proves this. Month-on-month hours watched are up 21%. Active channels are up 25%.

It should be noted that some Kick streamers face allegations of viewbotting. I cannot substantiate these claims myself.

So if Kick is still growing healthily, why did Bruce leave? To directly quote him: “It was just do the craziest s**t or you're lame”. He felt pressure to be somebody he wasn’t.

bbjess provides the counterpoint though, stating that there are many Kick streamers “with kind hearts & hope”. And while Bruce has a valid point about the wild things happening on Kick, you don’t have to participate. Instead, you can enjoy the 95/5 sub split creating content you and your community enjoy.

📜 Post Of The Week

As we saw with MrBeast earlier, even the biggest creators make mistakes.

As Big E puts it, content creation is about “f**king around and finding out”.
