Issue #30

Hey, it’s Harry.

Welcome back to another week of the streaming and content journey.

This weekend a major livestreaming event is taking place with the launch of SpaceX’s second Starship rocket. Millions will be watching across YouTube and X.

It’s a good reminder to all creators that we should think about major events in our game or content niche. Are you taking full advantage of them?

💼 TikTok LIVE Agencies - The Good And The Bad

I’ve seen an increased amount of chatter about TikTok LIVE agencies recently, so let’s talk about this “dirty” word and I’ll explain why I think most TikTok streamers should join them. Crucially though, I’ll help you spot greedy agencies to avoid.

For transparency, I am in the process of forming my own UK agency.

What is a TikTok LIVE agency?

These are real registered companies that exist to help you grow on TikTok LIVE. They are country-based, a requirement from TikTok. As you probably know, TikTok takes 50% of your gift revenue after App Store fees. They then give some of this to the agency.

In return, agencies offer benefits to help you.

The most useful benefits are protection from false bans and access to a stream key. Most good agencies will also provide you with free training modules and direct support from their staff. Also, TikTok often runs campaigns that only agency creators can join.

Because they are free and because of the benefits listed above, I highly recommend anybody who is a serious TikTok streamer join one.

What’s the catch and how do I join?

There are hardly any downsides to joining them if you are serious about TikTok streaming.

Firstly, you typically need 1,000 to 200K followers. Anything below or above that and you often can’t join. I’ve seen exceptions to those rules though.

Most agencies will require you to stream at least 10 to 20 hours per month. You should be doing this anyway!

Some agencies will be money-hungry and try to force you to do a type of stream you don’t like, such as a Live Battle. See more about red flags below.

You can learn more about agencies, how to find them in your country and access my curated list of agencies using the link below.

Red flags - Don’t join these agencies!

Unfortunately, there will always be money-hungry companies out there, who don’t care about you. As I said earlier, the agency makes money from your gift revenue. Don’t worry, it’s not taken from your side of the 50% cut. Let’s help you avoid the greedy agencies.

If your agency is like this, leave!!

The creator above was just trying to get help with their stream key, but the agency said they were wasting their time. The agency is supposed to help you. If your agency is like this, immediately leave. Unfortunately, there’s a 15-day leave period. Remember all agencies are free so you can easily join a better one!

More red flags

A single red flag might not be an issue but look out for patterns of behaviour!

  1. No agency website. Operating solely via TikTok app or Instagram. This is a sign of cost-cutting and maximising profits.

  2. Spamming your DMs with cold outreach. i.e. You didn’t initiate contact. The good agencies don’t need to do this!

  3. Not interested in supporting you, as with the image above.

  4. The best agencies are solely focused on TikTok LIVE, which means no distractions. Avoid joining more general agencies whose focus is split across multiple social platforms.

𝕏 Elon Musk Continues To Push Livestreaming

Elon Musk’s X platform (formerly Twitter) continues to push updates to streaming. They’ve finally added desktop chat.

The work continues. In a reply to my query (which Elon Musk liked), Melissa from X’s Live department stated that integrations with Streamlabs and Restream are on the way.

This is great news for multistreamers and web-based streamers as it means we will soon be able to combine X livestream chat with all our other chats such as Twitch and YouTube.

Elon Musk showed the potential of livestreaming on X, by streaming to over 900k people. Big streaming names like Ninja and Tenz have also been streaming on X.

So is X the next big streaming platform? Time will tell. One thing is for sure though. X always innovates quickly.
